First 2012 spring-training games emerge — in Miami

We have the first official games for Spring Training 2012, as the Miami Marlins — that’s right, the former Florida Marlins — will play a pair of games at the beginning of April against  against the New York Yankees to test their new ballpark before a season opener.

The games against the New York Yankees will take place on Sunday, April 1 at 1:10 pm and Monday, April 2 at 7:10 pm.

For the April 1 game, approximately 25,000 tickets will be available, with approximately 30,000 tickets available for the April 2 game. All 2012 full season and partial plan holders will have the first opportunity to purchase tickets to these exhibition games, with a limited amount of tickets going on sale to the general public in spring of 2012.

With the announcement of this date, we can pretty much determine that Spring Training 2012 will begin with players reporting in mid-February and games running from March 1 to a regular-season opener around April 5.
