Next step: spring training workouts

Spring Training 2015With players and catchers reporting for camp, we’re on to the next phase: spring training workouts.

Every morning players take to diamonds, training fields and football fields (yes!) to run through drills, receive coaching and more. These workouts are open to the public, and there’s some level of accommodation involved, such as bleachers and perhaps a little shade. (Then again, with the weather in Florida, this may not matter too much for most folks.)

Some teams train in their spring ballparks (i.e., the San Francisco Giants), but most train on nearby training fields. These days walkways between diamonds and football fields are roped off for easy access, and there are bleachers and shade in many complexes as well. (Football fields? Many teams have installed football fields at their spring complexes for light workouts.) You won’t get run of the place, but you’ll usually have a good view of the action and potentially some access to players for autographs. Just remember: there’s no strict schedule for workouts (that’s why many start times are approximate), and meetings or other events may intrude into workout time.

We’ve put together a list of spring training workouts, complete with locations and general start times. Check out our reporting dates page to see when workouts actually begin: each team has different dates, and pitchers/catchers will begin workouts before position players.
