| Directions | The ballpark is southeast of the Hwy. 202 (the Red Mountain Freeway, running east/west) and Hwy 101 (the Pima Freeway, running north-south) interchange. From Phoenix and points west: Take Hwy. 202 and head east. Take exit 8 (McClintock Dr.) and go south. Go left (east) on E. Rio Salado Parkway and drive 1.3 miles. The complex will be on your left. From Scottsdale and points north: Take Hwy. 101 south to Exit 52. Turn left (east) on E. Rio Salado Pkwy. The complex will be on your left. From Tempe: Take E. Rio Salado Pkwy. (which runs north of downtown and ASU) three miles; the complex is on your left. |

With new hotels opening up around Sloan Park and an expanding retail scene to both the east and the west, it would be possible to stick to the area around the ballpark and build your days around baseball games, dinners and shopping. Or you could set up shop in nearby downtown Tempe, which has its own charms, or a little farther afield in Scottsdale. And many diehards set up spring residence at some of the old haunts dating back to when the team trained at Hohokam Park, including the Mesa Mezona Hotel. All of this makes for a very convenient trip for Chicago Cubs spring training 2024.
There are 14 other teams with spring-training venues in the Phoenix area: San Diego Padres (Peoria), Seattle Mariners (Peoria), Milwaukee Brewers (Maryvale), Oakland Athletics (Mesa), Los Angeles Angels (Tempe), San Francisco Giants (Scottsdale), Cleveland Guardians (Goodyear), Los Angeles Dodgers (Glendale), Chicago White Sox (Glendale) Texas Rangers (Surprise), Kansas City Royals (Surprise). Arizona Diamondbacks (Scottsdale) and Colorado Rockies (Scottsdale). The one farthest afield is Surprise Stadium, which still makes for a rather manageable commute for a day game.
Where to Stay: Because there are so many spring-training venues in Phoenix and you’re more than likely visiting more than one ballpark, chances are pretty good that you don’t necessarily need to be staying close to the ballpark. Phoenix is a relatively easy area to make your way around, so don’t feel like it’s essential you stay close to the park.
Flying In: The closest large airport is Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. It’s served by all the major airlines, including United, Delta, Air Canada, American, and Southwest. It’s a pleasant enough airport. There is also the much smaller Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport; Allegiant Air flies there direct from a variety of destinations in the Midwest and Western regions of the United States, including Rockford, Peoria, and Fort Wayne.
