Planning for St. Patrick’s Day 2022

spring training 2022There is one major holiday during spring trainingSt. Patrick’s Day. In 2022 it will be the start of a potentially epic four-day weekend, so spring-training fans definitely should plan ahead.

We don’t have full schedules yet, but we know there are already several intriguing night games on the schedule, so St. Pat’s Day presents a great opportunity for a day-night doubleheader. Brewers, Red Sox and Rays fans have opportunities to see their teams twice in a single day. And with St. Patrick’s Day 2022 falling on a Thursday, a St. Pat’s game is the perfect start to a four-day weekend.

Here are our favorites games so far on the schedule for optimizing your St. Patrick’s 2022 spring training travels.

Grapefruit League

Toronto Blue Jays at Detroit Tigers. Tigers fans are really, really enthusiastic about St. Patrick’s Day. Watch for plenty of fans in fans in the stands decked out in green and festooned with green beads and caps.

Minnesota Twins at Pittsburgh Pirates. Pirates fans come pretty close to Tigers fans in celebrating St. Pat’s Day with plenty of green gear.

Baltimore Orioles at Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies are known for throwing a festive St. Pat’s game. Watch for some green caps on the field and some green merch at the concession stands.

Doubleheader: Houston Astros at Miami Marlins (day) and St. Louis Cardinals at Washington Nationals (night). Nothing like twice the fun in Jupiter and West Palm Beach. The two ballparks are just 12 miles apart, making it easy to make a full day of it, with a meal and a cocktail between the action. Neither team is known for their St. Pat’s festivities, but when so much baseball is on the docket, it won’t matter.

DoubleheaderTampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox and Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays. We expect this to be a day-night doubleheader, but can’t confirm as neither team has as of yet released game times. So we’re hoping and praying you won’t see two afternoon games.

Cactus League

Los Angeles Angels at Chicago Cubs. This will be the hottest ticket for all of 2022 Cactus League action, we predict: a Cubs night game on St. Patrick’s day will be catnip for fans across the Valley and Chicagoland.

Milwaukee Brewers at Los Angeles Dodgers. This will be the second-hottest ticket for all of 2022 Cactus League action, we predict: Camelback Ranch throws a memorable St. Patrick’s Day bash, Brewers fans will able to put together a convenient day-night doubleheader at American Family Fields of Phoenix and Glendale, and Dodgers fans can get a convenient jump on a four-day weekend of baseball.

Oakland Athletics at San Francisco Giants. The matchup might not be so exotic any more with the rise of interleague play, but an A’s visit to Scottsdale is always a good draw.

Cincinnati Reds at Cleveland Guardians. Traditionally a St. Patrick’s Day all-Ohio matchup is the best-attended game at Goodyear Ballpark.
