Cactus League: Spring training had $348 million impact on Arizona economy

The total impact on the Arizona economy, according to the Cactus League, was $348 million, or 3 percent less than in 2009 — a small decline but not a bad one given the state of the economy and a much shorter spring-training season.

The impact in 2009 was previously estimated to be $359.5 million.

Spring training in 2009 was six weeks long, mostly due to the World Baseball Classic. Take away the additional 27 Cactus League games, factor in the bad weather at the start of the 2010 season (wiping seven games from the proceedings), and the news is actually pretty good both for baseball and the local economy.
