Japanese teams still potential for ’11 spring training: Tucson

More games could be added to the 2011 Cactus League schedule if negotiations are successful in bringing in Japanese teams for spring training, but Tucson officials admit time is not on their side.

So far most Cactus League teams have released schedules, but none include any Tucson games or Japanese-team matches. The Pima County Sports and Tourism Authority is still hoping to lure some Japanese teams to Tucson Electric Park or Hi Corbett Field; members have scheduled meetings at the Baseball Winter Meetings on Dec. 6 to discuss the situation. While it seems pretty late in the process to finalize anything for 2011, they say they may roll discussions for 2012 — which at this late date makes sense.
