Looking forward to 2026 spring training

Yes, it seems just like yesterday that spring training ended. But with 2025 spring training now firmly in the rearview mirror, it’s time to enjoy the 2025 regular season and prepare for 2026 spring training.

Regarding the 2025 MLB regular season: Yes, we are prepping something that will enhance that enjoyment, but we’re not quite ready for a public announcement. Look for something in your email by the end of the month.

Regarding 2026: Assuming MLB does not make any major changes to spring-training scheduling, we expect pitchers and catchers to report to spring training Feb. 12 or so, with the first games scheduled for Feb. 19-21, barring some early-season overseas play a la the Cubs and Dodgers in Tokyo. (This puts St. Pat’s Day on a Tuesday.) We would expect the regular season to launch March 26. We may see big changes in 2027 as MLB and players work out a new CBA. but for no one is expecting anything different in 2026.

Also regarding 2026: Yes, we will be producing The Complete Guide to Spring Training 2026 / Florida and The Complete Guide to Spring Training 2026 / Arizona. Look for the presale to begin August 1.

And, in our final look at 2025 spring training, Ballpark Digest compiled the spring-training attendance figures. Overall, 2025 spring training attendance was down some three percent after a strong 2024. These are the numbers reported by Major League Baseball, so a few explanations are necessary. MLB records all spring training and exhibition games; that means exhibition games played in MLB ballparks–like the Los Angeles Freeway Series, as well as the tuneups hosted by the Diamondbacks, Giants and Rangers–count in the attendance standings. The Chicago Cubs paced 2025 attendance per game, while the New York Mets set a total spring attendance. You can check out the numbers here.
