The New York Mets will face the Chicago Cubs in the annual Las Vegas spring-training contests at Cashman Field, but the series will take place at the end of March, instead of the traditional mid-month timing.
The Cubs have traveled to Cashman Field for the past several years; the trek to Vegas has become an annual event. The Mets are a natural opponent: the team’s top farm team is the event’s host, the Las Vegas 51s (Class AAA; Pacific Coast League).
However, this timing may disappoint many Cubs fans, who are used to following the team from Mesa in the middle of spring training. Instead, the games will come after the teams break camp and are destined for their season openers.
