With the first games just weeks away, teams in Florida and Arizona are releasing their spring training promotions schedules. This year’s slates offer plenty of promotions for fans in the Grapefruit and Cactus leagues, with some of the notable events covered in this edition of Promotions Watch.
Promotions at spring training games cover a broad spectrum of offerings. Along with ticket specials and discounts, special events include giveaways that rival the offerings fans can expect during the regular season. In addition, there will be some notable theme days throughout the spring.
At Goodyear Ballpark, there will be back-to-back bobblehead giveaways. On March 10, the Cincinnati Reds will hand out Raisel Iglesias bobbleheads, which will be part of a Friday night matchup against the Colorado Rockies that includes a happy hour special. The following afternoon, the Cleveland Indians will stage a bobblehead giveaway of their own, featuring Cory Kluber.
St. Patrick’s Day is always a great day for spring training, and there will be a particular incentive for families to head to Charlotte Sports Park. That afternoon, the Tampa Bay Rays will give away bucket hats to the first 500 kids 14 and under. Promotions for children make up a big part of the Rays’ spring training giveaway slate, as a DK Kitty toothbrush holder (February 26), plastic bat and ball set (March 12), Raymond wall decal (March 14), foam bat and ball set (March 15), and an inflatable chair (March 19) are also included on the team’s schedule.
The Minnesota Twins are to set to once again stage Minnesota Day, one of the team’s annual spring traditions. Scheduled for March 12, the event will include tailgating opportunities, while many Minnesota natives will be on hand with the flags of their home towns. On that afternoon, the Twins will host the Baltimore Orioles in a split-squad matchup.
On March 5, the Philadelphia Phillies will host Phillies Alumni Day at Spectrum Field. During the promotion, the Phillies will recognize the team’s on the field during a pre-game ceremony. In addition, fans will have a chance to interact with players, as autograph tables will be on the concourse. The Phillies, in a split squad game, will host the Detroit Tigers that afternoon.
Out in Arizona, fans in Peoria can look forward to two firework displays. The first will take place on March 3, when the San Diego Padres host the Chicago White Sox. The last firework show of the spring is scheduled for March 31, following the conclusion of that evening’s game between the Seattle Mariners and the Rockies.
One of the more notable ticket specials to take place throughout the spring comes from Camelback Ranch, the spring training home of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox. For each Sunday home game, kids can get into the ballpark with $5 lawn seats as part of Uptown Alley Family Sunday. At the conclusion of those games, children age 12 and under can take the field for kids runs the bases.
Finally, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are hosting a post-game concert by Gavin DeGraw on March 24. It’s free for those attending the game.
With these promotions in place, fans of all ages will have the opportunity to receive a giveaway or special offer while taking in some early baseball action.
