Another sign spring training is near: Major League Baseball teams are packing in anticipating of shipping gear to Florida and Arizona in the annual rite of Truck Day.
The Tampa Bay Rays began loading equipment yesterday, even though the team has one of the shortest shipping schedules in baseball: just 85 miles or so down I-75. The Boston Red Sox, who have one of the longer commutes, will hold the annual Truck Day ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 8. The Red Sox have turned a pretty mundane shipping story into a sponsored event (by JetBlue) attracting hundreds fans to Fenway Park and Yawkey Way.
