Cubs decide to stay in Mesa — if voters approve

The Chicago Cubs will continue to train in Mesa if voters approve a referendum on spending on a new $84 million spring facility.

The decision wasn’t unexpected — Cubs insiders told us it was a certainty despite a pitch from Florida’s Collier County — but it’s not final. Voters and the Arizona Legislature must approve a sales-tax hike that would fund the public part of the development.
