Talk about a great spring training for the Pittsburgh Pirates: the team set multiple attendance records this year at McKechnie Field.
Here they are:
- On Wednesday, March 18, the Pirates drew 9,018 fans to the night game against the Detroit Tigers, setting a single-game attendance record at McKechnie Field.
- Three days later on March 21, 8,963 fans attended the game against the Boston Red Sox, establishing a record for a day game at the ballpark.
- Finally, the Pirates drew 106,038 fans over 15 games for an average of 7,069 fans per game.
“Our fans have shown a wonderful commitment to this team from day one of Spring Training,” Pirates President Frank Coonelly said. “We have made the fan experience in Bradenton a high priority, and our fans have responded repeatedly by coming out in record numbers.”
