News out of Peoria: the Seattle Mariners 2014 spring schedule has been posted.
You can view the schedule here.
The 33-game slate begins with the annual Charity Game against the San Diego Padres at the Peoria Sports Complex. Unlike past years, which have included trips to such places as Las Vegas, Albuquerque, Salt Lake and Sacramento, all preseason games will be played in Arizona at Cactus League ballparks for the first time since 1988.
The Mariners will play 16 games at Peoria Stadium next spring, including one when the Padres are designated the home team (February 28). The annual Charity Game against the Padres will benefit over two dozen local causes in the Peoria area. The 2013 Charity Game raised $106,417.
The Cactus League schedule includes eight night games, the most the Mariners have ever played in spring training (March 8 @ Dodgers, March 10 @ Arizona Diamondbacks, March 12 vs. Chicago Cubs, March 14 @ Rockies, March 18 vs. San Diego Padres, March 21 vs. San Diego Padres, March 25 @ Kansas City Royals, March 28 vs. Colorado Rockies).
On Thursday, March 20, the Mariners will play Chicago at the Cubs’ new spring-training home being built at the old Riverview Golf Course in Mesa (1:05pm).
The Mariners will close out play in Arizona with two exhibition games against the Colorado Rockies on Friday, March 28 at Peoria (7:05pm) and Saturday, March 29 at Salt River Fields in Scottsdale (12:10pm). The Mariners hold a workout in Anaheim on Sunday, March 30, and open the regular season against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday, March 31.
