Spring training begins today!

Steinbrenner Field 2017

With the MLB lockout officially ending after MLB and the players association reached an agreement on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), spring training begins today, with players welcome to report.

No, no games yet. Games are slated to start March 18, per MLB, and we are expecting some game changes in the addition of matches March 28-April 5. Technically, the Grapefruit and Cactus League season was to end March 27, with March 28-29 set aside for exhibitions. But we’ll see new games added to the end of the schedule, leading up to an April 8 beginning of the MLB regular season.

But today should be a grand day. Players are welcome to report as soon as this morning (the hard deadline for reporting is Sunday, March 13), and if you’re in Florida or Arizona, camps should be open to all. There will be plenty of action, what with MiLB players already in camp as well.

We will track the schedule changes; be prepared for plenty of newsletter mailings as more information comes in. But in the meantime, spring training begins today, so: Play Ball!
