The Detroit Tigers announced extended netting for Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium for 2018, joining the Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees in the Grapefruit League in adding fan protections.
The new netting will protect sections 100-115. In addition, the netting will be thinner than past versions of ballpark netting, allowing for a clearer view of the field.
Several Major League Baseball teams have announced plans to extend their protective netting in 2018. Among the clubs that have already unveiled plans to extend protective netting at their ballparks include the Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, Cincinnati Reds, San Diego Padres, Baltimore Orioles, Colorado Rockies, Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee Brewers. Only the Twins, Yankees and now the Tigers have announced plans to extend netting at spring-training facilities, but we expect more announcements in coming weeks.
