MLB overhauls AZ college tourney as MLB Desert Invitational

GCU Ballpark

We have a new name and a new format for the former MLB4 college tourney held at the launch of spring training, with the MLB Desert Invitational tournament set for three pro and college venues across the Phoenix area.

The MLB Desert Invitational tournament will now include six teams from around the country, including three nationally ranked teams, and hosted in three locations throughout the Greater Phoenix area: Salt River Fields at Talking Stick (Diamondbacks/Rockies spring home), Sloan Park (Cubs spring home) and Grand Canyon University.

The MLB-hosted event is scheduled for the weekend of February 17-19, including three exclusive telecasts LIVE on MLB Network and streamed on MLB.com.

The Desert Invitational, which will be the fourth such event hosted by MLB in Arizona, will feature several of the best baseball programs in the nation, all of which are participating for the first time. These include the following:

  • University of Tennessee — #4
  • University of Arizona — #33
  • Grand Canyon University — #36 ranked
  • Michigan State University
  • Fresno State University (Fresno, CA)
  • University of California-San Diego

Tickets are currently available at https://brushfire.com/mlbdesertinvitational. Children 12 and under are free.

Historically, the tournament has featured Vanderbilt University, University of Michigan, Texas Christian University, California Polytechnic State University (San Luis Obispo), University of Connecticut, University of Virginia and California State University (Fullerton).
