We’re still seeing additions to the 2023 Spring Training schedule, with two new Las Vegas Big League Weekend games between Colorado and Kansas City announced for March 18-19.
The games are set for Las Vegas Ballpark, home of the Las Vegas Aviators, the Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. It will be the second Las Vegas Big League Weekend in 2023; the A’s are hosting the Cincinnati Reds on the weekend of March 4-5.
The Rockies are slated to make their fourth all-time Spring Training appearance in Las Vegas for Big League Weekend, having previously faced the Phillies and Athletics in 2000, the Dodgers in 2003 and the Mariners in 2009. Completed in 2019, this will be first time the Rockies visit Las Vegas Ballpark, with the previous contests taking place at Cashman Field.
With a sleek grandstand design unlike any in baseball and plenty of attention paid to the small details, Las Vegas Ballpark stands out amidst the glitz of Sin City and becomes one of the most noteworthy MiLB ballparks.
The result of two decades of work by Aviators President/Chief Operating Officer Don Logan, Las Vegas Ballpark is located in the Vegas suburb of Summerlin. The location is a good one: next to the Red Rock Casino complex (which, in fact, does take action on the Aviators), the Vegas Golden Knights (NHL) practice facility and a planned downtown district, Las Vegas Ballpark benefits from easy access from a nearby freeway, three major streets and plenty of side streets.
Game times for the Spring Training series are yet to be determined. Each game will be a split-squad contest for the Rockies, with the club also scheduled to play the Royals at Surprise Stadium on March 18 and the Cleveland Guardians at Goodyear Ballpark on March 19.
