The 31-game Florida schedule consists of 16 home games, including the intrasquad “Black and Gold” benefit game on Monday, February 29.
The Pirates 2016 spring schedule opens with the team on the road against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday, March 1 in Lakeland, Florida. The Pirates will then host the Tigers the following day in their spring training home opener at McKechnie Field on Wednesday, March 2 at 1:05 p.m.
A total of five of Pittsburgh’s first seven spring-training games are scheduled to be played in Bradenton and the club will play two night games at McKechnie Field; Saturday, March 26 against the Tampa Bay Rays and Sunday, March 27 against the Baltimore Orioles (both 6:05 starts).
Prior to the regular season opener against the St. Louis Cardinals in Pittsburgh, the Pirates are scheduled to play the Cincinnati Reds at Victory Field in Indianapolis on Saturday, April 2 at 1:35 p.m.
The Pirates established a club record in 2015, drawing 106,038 fans to their 15 spring training home dates at McKechnie Field, including a single-season game high of 9,018 on March 18 vs. Detroit. The team has trained at McKechnie Field since 1969.
