Revised 2021 spring schedules posted

Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium

We have a unique situation in the annals of spring training, as Major League Baseball totally blew up the announced 2021 schedules to cut down on travel and limits games to nearby opponents. We have the updated schedules here.

Our schedules won’t match exactly with what is posted on MLB.com: We present far more game times and accurate game dates because we get our information directly from teams and training camps. You can consider these final schedules, though to be honest there’s always the chance for a change or two.

The announcement is part of a final declaration that yes, we will have a spring training, and yes, tickets are on sale or going on sale shortly. You can consider these final dates, though there are plenty of considerations as you plan your trip.

In essence, the new schedule calls for fewer games, with a new start date of Feb. 28 and the elimination of both college exhibitions and split-squad games. Though schedules for both the Grapefruit and Cactus League were both blown up, the changes are more dramatic among Florida teams. The five teams in eastern Florida will only play each other, with a slimmer schedule of 24 games. The 10 western teams will play only within their regions for a total of 28 games; you will see a lot of Twins and Red Sox games, but no excursions into the northern part of the area to play, say, the Tigers or Red Sox.

We’ll have an in-depth look at spring-training routines shortly, but here’s the overview. First off: no matter where you go, tickets will be sold in pod allotments of two, three or four per transaction; digital ticketing is recommended. Pods will be spaced at least six feet apart, with markers reminding fans to keep a safe distance from one another. No groups or season tickets (for the most part): some teams are giving season-ticket holders first crack at single-game tickets, while others are not. However, season-ticket holders will not lose their places in priority this season. Masks are mandatory, and they must be real masks: gaiters are not allowed, and you won’t be able to sidestep mask restrictions by nursing a warm beer for nine innings. (Indeed, the phrase MLB uses is “actively” consuming food and beverage.) Due to safety protocols, autographs will not be permitted and fans will not be permitted to attend club workouts, with sections near dugouts and bullpens closed off. “Buffer Zones” will be created between the playing field and the first row of ticketed seats adjacent to both dugouts (12 feet in distance) and bullpens (6 feet in distance). Guests are not allowed within the designated “Buffer Zones” at any time.

The guidelines pretty much follow what we outlined way back in September: socially distanced seating, as much touchless technology as possible, a limited number of fans in the stands, and no interaction with players. You can read the highlights of the health and safety plan here. Check out our Spring Training 2021 FAQ to cover the questions we are being asked as folks begin planning for their February and March travels. You can read it here.

Teams are still in the process of releasing spring-training information, and we’re doing our best to keep up. We’ll be updating this list as we go along, as teams are making daily announcements about tickets. Here’s a look at where each team stands, by league.
